China's new energy storage capacity exceeds 100 million kilowatts.

At the 8th Hongqiao International Economic Forum's sub-forum on "High-Quality Development of New Energy Storage to Promote Global Energy Transition" held on November 5th, Bian Guangqi, Deputy Director of the Energy Conservation and Technology Equipment Department of the National Energy Administration, stated that China's new energy storage has maintained steady and rapid development. As of the end of September 2025, China's installed capacity of new energy storage will exceed 100 million kilowatts.

Bian Guangqi noted that this figure represents an increase of over 30 times compared to the end of the 13th Five-Year Plan period, and its installed capacity accounts for over 40% of the global total, ranking first in the world. In recent years, China's installed capacity of new energy storage has increased rapidly, with continuous breakthroughs in technological innovation and industrial development, gradually improving business models, and expanding application scenarios. The new energy storage industry is gradually moving from the early stages of commercialization to a stage of large-scale development.

In terms of single-station scale, the majority of new energy storage stations have a capacity of 100 MW or more and a storage duration of 2 to 4 hours. Stations with a capacity of 100 MW or more account for more than two-thirds of the total, indicating a clear trend towards larger-scale development. Two-hour and four-hour energy storage stations account for 76.4% and 16.7% respectively, with an average duration of 2.34 hours.

With the increase in the scale of new energy storage installations, its role in promoting the development and consumption of new energy sources, improving the safe and stable operation of the power system, and ensuring power supply is gradually strengthening. In the first three quarters of 2025, the equivalent utilization hours of new energy storage nationwide reached approximately 770 hours, an increase of approximately 120 hours year-on-year. Many provinces and regions, including Yunnan, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Xinjiang, Sichuan, Qinghai, and Hubei, experienced good utilization, further demonstrating its regulatory role.

Furthermore, the innovation capabilities of new energy storage equipment are continuously improving, and the overall technological routes are showing a diversified development trend.
